Pollution Characteristics,Sources and Ecological Risk of Heavy Metals in Surface Sediments from Dongting Lake

9 representative sampling sites were selected to study the spatial distribution characteristics,sources and ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediments from Dongting Lake. The results show that,The contents of Cd,Hg,As,Cu,Pb and Cr in surface sediments ranged from 0. 60 to 20. 70,0. 090 to 0. 640,10. 4 to 83. 7,17. 9 to 70. 9,16. 9 to 95. 8 and59. 0 to 199. 0 mg / kg,the contents of Cd and As exceed the standard of class Ⅲ of environment quality standard for soils( GB15618—1995) in part sites,Cd and As are the main heavy metal pollutants; on the spatial distribution,Cd and Hg are similar,the average contents of them are South Dongting Lake West Dongting Lake East Dongting Lake,As,Cu,Pb and Cr are similar,the average contents of them are South Dongting Lake East Dongting Lake West Dongting Lake.Correlation analysis indicates that significant positive correlations exist among As,Cd,Hg,Cu and Pb,but there is no significant correlations between Cr and other heavy metals; principal component analysis shows that the first principal components include Hg,As and Cd,which are considered to come from mining and heavy industry,the second principal components include Cr, Pb and Cu, which are probably from sewage and agricultural contamination. The preliminary evaluation results from sediment quality criteria method show that Cd,Hg,As,Cu,Pb and Cr do not constitute a serious threat to the ecological system,but Cd,As and Cr have a serious threat in part sites. affected by higher contents of Cd and As,South Dongting Lake has higher ecological risk.
