Chemical modification of attapulgite with silane coupling agent

The modified attapulgite was prepared by attapulgite treated with 4 mol/L hydrochloric acid and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(silane coupling agent) at ultrasonic vibration for about 20min.The results showed that the modified attapulgite had better compatibility in dichloromethane,trichloromethane and tetrachloromethane.Thermo gravimetric analysis showed that weight loss rates of modified and unmodified attapulgites at 400℃ were 34.0% and 4.4% respectively.It indicated that the modification effect of graft silane coupling agent was well.
