Survey on HIV related risk factors among MSM in Mianyang and Yibin

Objective To describe the prevalence of HIV related risky behavior among men who have sex with men(MSM) both in Mianyang and Yibin,Sichuan Province and to provide evidence for study on health education and behavior intervention model among MSM.Methods Totally,400 MSM who were male,aged 18 years and above,and having had oral or anal sexual intercourse with men were recruited to participate in baseline survey via peer referral chain in Mianyang and Yibin,200 participants in each,Sichuan Province.The questionnaires were completed anonymously.Results There was a Gay Bar in Yibin and Tongzhi Websites both in Yibin and Mianyang and there were some MSM venues in the corner of the public sites.Of participants,92.0% in Yibin and 75.0% in Mianyang were involved in social activities of MSM.Mean of HIV/AIDS knowledge scores was(12.4±3.2),which was higher than in Yibin(11.6±3.6).17.5% of participants in Mianyang received HIVtest and 21.5% in Yinbin before the survey.9.0% of all participants reported both having male and female sexual partners and 8.5% of them reported both having commercial and regular sexual partners in six months prior to survey in Mianyang,the rates were 19.5% and 19.0% in Yibin accordingly.In addition,there were injection drug users among participants.Conclusions Based on the results of baseline,both MSM peer-social network and MSM venues could be the ways of HIV/AIDS related healthy education and behavioral intervention.The intervention should focus on condom usage advocacy and HIV-test promotion among MSM.
