Effect of Gypenosides on Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats

The myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury model was produced by occlusion the left coronary artery and release the occlusion in rats. 20mg/kg Gypenosides, iv 5 min before releasing the occlusion coronary artery, significantly improved myocardial GSH-Px activity, reduced MDA content and mantained the fluidity of mitochondria membrane in normal level, also protected myocardial ultrastructure, keeped them from the oxygen free radical damage. These results indicate that Gypenosides have protective effect on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury probably by inhibiting the oxygen free radicals and subseqence lipid peroxidation.
