Study of calculating the dynamic available transfer capability with the differential evolution algorithm

The mathematic model of dynamic available transfer capability is established based on the optimal power flow considering the transient stability constraints. The differential evolution algorithm (DE) is proposed which is used in solving available transfer capability (ATC) calculation considering the transient stability constraints. A composite fitness function method, which does not require any penalty coefficient, is employed for constraint handling. The DE has such features such as simple to use, little controlled parameters and carry out random, parallel and direct global search, which is easy to understand and put into effect, and also it has good convergence property and fast calculating speed. The DE is an effective and robustness method in solving the nonlinear, non-differentiable, multi-peaks, higher dimensional and complex functions. The availability and rationality of DE is verified by the calculation results of the WSCC9 bus system.
