Effect of recombinant human interleukin-11 on proliferation and cell cycle of normal IEC-6 cells

Objective In order to investigate the effects of interleukin-11 (IL-11) on the small intestinal epithelial cells, we observed the effect of recombinant human interleukin-11 on the proliferation, cell cycle and the expression of IL-11 receptor of IEC-6 cells in vitro. Methods The cell cycle, proliferation and the expression of IL-11 receptor of IEC-6 cells were determined by means of MTT, flow cytometry and Western blot. Results The results demonstrated that rhIL-11 could induce proliferative inhibition and cell cycle retardation in normal IEC-6 cells. Moreover, rhIL-11 also evoked the expression of alpha-chain protein of IL-11 receptor in IEC-6 cells. Conclusion These results implicated that rhIL-11 might affect the IEC-6 cells by combining with the receptor on the cell membrane to regulate the signal transduction pathway in the cytoplasm.
