Progress on Beam Shaping of High-Power Laser Diode Arrays

The application of high-power laser diode arrays (LDA) is becoming wider and wider, but the quality of output beams from LDA is poor for its unique mechanism of luminescence. In order to meet the requirements on beam quality in various applications, it must transform laser light into required profile or distribution. After introducing the principle of beam shaping and key techniques, we summarize the technology for LDA beam shaping, and analyze and compare advantage and shortcoming in all kinds of beam shaping technologies according to different propagation characteristic of light beams.
