Progress of Seismic Wave Detection by Fiber-Optic Sensors

Liu Yuliang He Jun Wang Yongjie Li Fang (Optoelectronic System Laboratory, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100083, China)
A new kind of seismic wave detection method has emerged recently using fiber optic sensors. It has the advantages of high sensitivity, resistance of thunder and electromagnetic interference, excellent insulating ability, and the capability of large-scale multiplexing. Therefore, it has important applications in the area of earthquake prediction, seismic exploration for oil and gas, and security. The progress of fiber seismic detection and the applications in different areas are reviewed. The remaining problems are pointed out.
