A study on the catalytic efficiency of disc and powdery catalysts for graphite transition to diamond

In order to investigate the effect of disc and powder catalysts including nickel base and iron base on graphite transition to diamond,the activation energy and specific surface energy for diamond growth in the presence of the two catalysts were calculated using a kinetics approach.The results indicated that there existed slight discrepancies for the activation energy and specific energy of diamond growth whatever catalyst was adopted.And the specific surface energy was related to crystalline morphology of diamond,depending on the synthesizing conditions.However,powdery catalysts had higher efficiency than disc ones to facilitate the graphite transition of carbon to diamond.
