Research on dressing method and technology for vitrified CBN grinding wheel

Dressing technology for vitrified CBN grinding wheel was discussed in two aspects including truing and sharpening.An electroplated diamond dressing roller was used for dressing test on high speed vitrified CBN wheel during cam shaft NC grinding.The results showed that,the speed difference between roller and grinding wheel is the main affecting factor on the dressing effect;down-dressing is superior in effect to up-dressing;with too low speed difference during down-dressing,ground wave could appeare on the workpiece;reduced grinding wheel speed is suggested during up-dressing to prevent from too high speed difference.An adaptable speed difference was obtained from a great lot of tests which is 11 m/s for down-dressing,and 95 m/s for up-dressing.600 mm/min is suggested for longitudinal feeding speed of the roller versus the grinding wheel.With the above suggested parameters,a grinding test on cold quenched cast iron cam showed that,the workpiece surface roughness is 0.63μm,no vibration wave nor wheat ear-like or single oblique stripe was observed.
