EFFECT OF SINTERING TEMPERATURE ON THE PROPERTIES OF WC-Co(Cu) CEMENTED CARBIDE

The WC-Co(Cu) cemented carbide was prepared by mixed powders and vacuum sintering. The compositions and microstructure of the cemented carbide were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), inductive coupling plasma atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The transverse rupture strength(TRS), hardness was tested by universal material machine and rockwell hardness tester respectively. The results showed that the homogeneity of the microstructure increased first and then decreased with increasing of sintering temperature, the microstructure was homogeneous the sintering in 1460℃.Cu was volatilized, and a little amount of Cu was diffused in the WC-Co cemented carbide during vacuum sintering. As the sintering temperature increased, the TRS and hardness of the cemented carbide increased first and then decreased. When the sintering temperature was 1460℃, the TRS and hardness of the cemented carbide were 2595 MPa and 90.7 HRA, respectively.
