The Relationship between Compressional Wave Velocity and Density of Carbonate Reservoirs

Relationship between density and velocity of carbonate reservoirs could not be well characterized by Gardner empirical formula in HL Area.Based on the principles of average volume,the effects of lithology and porosity on the relation beween density and P-wave velocity was analyzed and a new theoretical model was proposed.Wells which had the data of density and P-wave velocity were studied in combination with mathematical curve fitting in HL Area,the relation between density and P-wave velocity could be matched respectively by least squares and Chebyshev curve fitting.The errors of the two fitting formula are analyzed,and then an empirical formula in HL Area which can well characterized the relationship between density and P-wave velocity is gained.The empirical formula shows that it can provide reference for estimating the density of carbonate reservoirs in other areas.
