The Relationship between Research and Teaching in Chinese Higher Education Institute: Empirical Analysis

Lu Genshu Gu Lina Liu Lei (Institute of Higher Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shanxi, 710049)  
This paper empirically analyzes the relationship between research and teaching in Chinese higher education institutes on the level of institute, by use of the data of the top 100 higher education institutes in the Chinese Universities' Rankings conducted by Shulian Wu et al. It shows that the research and teaching in Chinese higher education institutes have a significant positive relationship, and along with the development of the times the relationship between research and teaching becomes stronger. But the relationships among the two aspects of teaching, which is teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students, with scientific research, natural scientific research and social scientific research show different developing patterns. The relationship between research and teaching also presents different pattern hi different type's higher education institutes.
