Analysis of Land Use Change and Its Driving Forces in the Oasis of Shule River Middle and Lower Reaches

Based on visual interpretation of images in 1990,2000,2005 and 2010, the land use databases was established. Then the process, trends of the land use change and its driving forces were analyzed using land use dynamic change model. Results showed that: in recent 20 years grassland, water area and cultivated land were always major land use types in Shule River middle and lower reaches. Overall land use characteristics change was not significant. However, there were quite different among the land use types. The cultivated land enlarged obviously and the grassland change was large undulation, whereas the water area had decreased since 2000. Shrinking oasis from 1990 to 2005 was caused by grassland and water area reduction, grassland and cultivated land increases led to the expansion of oasis from 2005 to 2010.Major driving forces for LUCC in oasis of Shule River middle and lower reaches were human factors including population growth, policy, urbanization and technical level.
