Explanations of the Needham Puzzle:Where Do We Stand?——Discussion with Wen Guanzhong,Zhang Yuyan,and Edwards Ronald

JIANCAI PI(Peking University)  
This short paper mainly discusses three explanations of the Needham Paradox based on Yao Yang’s (2003) classification. On the basis of critical reviews of Wen (2005), Zhang and Gao (2005), and Edwards (2005), we put forward a new explanation, namely the hold-up hypothesis.
