Characteristics of Miners' Children's Personality and the Relationship between Personality and Parent-adolescent Communication.

Objective To find the characteristics of miners' children's personalities and its relationship with parent-adolescent communication, using the parent-adolescent communication scale. Methods To use NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) to test 155 miners' children. Results Boys get significantly higher scores on extraversion and openness. Meanwhile, girls score significantly higher than boys on neuroticism. The different levels of parent-adolescent communication are correlated with the five factors of the personality among the subjects. The statistic regression analysis also suggests in the miners' families, the openness of the parents' communication and fathers' communication problems could predict the children's extraversion, agreeableness, openness and neuroticism, but the mothers' communication problems have not much to do with the factors of children's personalities. Conclusion Parent-adolescent communication has an obvious effect on the personality traits of the miners' children.
