Thermal Effusivity Measurement of Homogeneous Solid Materials by Hot Plane Source Method

An experimental installation for measuring the thermal effusivity of homogeneous solids by hot plane source method is described in this paper. A new mathematical model has been developed in order to consider the thermal capacity and the thermal resistance of the hot plane source and the thermal contact resistance between hot plane source and sample. The solution in Laplace domain has been obtained by “thermal quadrupole method” and the analysis of parameter sensibility coefficients have been done based on the parameter estimation theory. The experimental thermal effusivity data for several materials are given and compared with the data obtained by hot wire method.
