The number of chromosomes in 4 pomegranate cultivars was counted by root tip squash method, and karyotype analysis of them was carried on,in order to find out the evolvement relation among 4 cultivars and to provide cytological information for classify of pomegranate cultivars. The results showed that all 4 cultivars had 18 chromosomes and the karyotype belonged to stebbins' 2B type.It could be concluded that there was little variation among chromosome karyotype in the cultivars, but it existed indeed. The karyotype formula of Baiyu, bud mutation cultivar, closed to that of its maternal plant,so they had a near relationship. The chromosome with arm ratio over 2 accounted for 11.11% of the total in maternal plant of Baiyu, while it was 22.22% in Baiyu. It suggested that the former was more original than the later in phylogenesis. The karyotype formula of Yushizi and Dabenzi were similar,so they had a near relationship.Baiyu was the advanced cultivars in 4 ones, based on arm ratio over 2.Baiyu and its maternal plant had stronger asymmetric in karyotype than the other cultivars. The chromosomes in all cultivars had 2 satellites in the same seat, but its' volume were different. The total volumes of chromosomes in 4 cultivars were different.
