Biological characteristics, ecological characteristics and cultivation techniques in Taxus chinensis var. mairei

In order to broaden the sources of materials producing taxinol, Taxus chinensis var. mairei had been introduced to Changning County since 1998, biological and ecological characteristics had been observed for ten years, and effects of different habitats, storage methods of seeds, cutting and seedling nursery on growth of seedling in T. chinensis var. mairei were researched. The results showed that physiological maturity period was seven-year-old, the ratio of female plant number to male plant number was about 7 ∶ 1. The slope factors had significant effects on height growth of T. chinensis var. mairei, and Growth status of the plants at shady slope was better than that at sunny slope. Growth of T. chinensis var. mairei had higher demands for humidity. The seedlings cultured by lateral branch cutting had no apical dominance and bad growth status, so the plants cultured by seedling nursery should be chosen for afforestation in production. The best thickness of covering soil of seeds was from 2.0 cm to 2.5 cm, and the tender seedlings need strengthen disease and insect pest controlling. Direct seeding in nutrient bag had the best nursery effect. Moisture content in fresh leaves changed with the seasons, and it reached the lowest value in Mary.
