Study on the relationship between coping styles,social support and quality of life in patients who underwent knee joint replacement

Objective To investigate the quality of life(QOL) in patients underwent knee joint replacement and explore its relationship with coping style and social support.MethodTotally 60 patients who underwent knee joint replacement were assessed with WHOQOL-BREF,MCMQ and PSSS.Statistics analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS) 11.5.ResultsThe score of QOL in those patients,comparing with the general population,was decreased generally.The coping styles were confrontation(17.44±2.21),avoidance(17.42±2.64) and resignation(11.62±1.19).The score of total PSSS,in family support,friends support and other support were(54.64±12.48),(19.64±9.21),(14.78±5.42),(19.43±5.32),respectively.The correlation ores of resignation coping style.Every dimension of QOL were positively correlated with total score of the PSSS.Meanwhile,the total score of PSSS and it′s two factors were negatively related to resignation coping style.ConclusionMedical staff should take care of patients from physical,psychological and social aspects during daily clinical practice.In order to improve QOL,it is essential to reinforce patients′ use opositive coping styles and help them take full advantage of social support.
