Synthesis of the orange-red long afterglow phosphor:Gd_2O_2S:Sm~(3+) by the microwave radiation method

Sm~(3+) doped gadolinium oxysulfide phosphor,which has the orange-red long afterglow emission,was synthesized by microwave radiation method. The synthesized phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction. The excitation and photoluminescence spectra,afterglow spectra and afterglow decay curves were examined. XRD confirmed the phosphor as pure phase of Gd_2O_2S. The phosphors showed three typical transitions of Sm~(3+)(()~4G_(5/2)→()~6H_J,J=5/2,7/2,9/2). A prominent phosphorescence can be seen in this phosphor after illuminated with UV light or visible light.
