Study on synthesis and grain growth kinetics of in-situ TiB_2/Fe_3Al nanocomposite(Ⅰ)——Mechanical alloying of Fe-Al-Ti-B quaternary powder

The structural evolution of Fe-Al-Ti-B quaternary powder during mechanical alloying was studied.The alloying mechanism was also discussed.During mechanical alloying of the powder,the supersaturated solid solution of Al,Ti,B in Fe,Fe(Al,Ti,B),is formed by the diffusion of the Al,Ti,B atoms into the Fe lattice.In the initial stage(10h),the Al,Ti particles enwrap around the Fe particles.In the middle stage(10-60h),the composite particles of several concentric circle-like layers are firstly formed and then disappear,which results in that the microstructure of the particles is changed to be even.Meanwhile,the lattice parameter of Fe(Al,Ti,B) increases rapidly,but the concentrations of the Fe,Al,Ti,B elements are not homogeneous.In the last stage(60-80h),the composition homogenization of the particles rapidly occurs.After milling for 80h,the Fe,Al,Ti,B elements are well distributed.The milled powder has ultrafine crystalline size(6.8nm) with severe lattice distortion and a structure similar to amorphous state.Due to doping of the Ti,B elements,the grain refinement rate of Fe(Al,Ti,B) is accelerated,but the alloying rate of the milled powder is lowed during mechanical alloying of the Fe-Al-Ti-B quaternary powder.
