Influence of V_2O_5 addition on structure and performance of aluminium titanate synthesized from aluminium slag

Aluminium titanate was synthesized from waste aluminum slag,which was a by-product of anodizing oxidation surface treating,and TiO_2 by solid state sintering method.The influence of V_2O_5 additive on the purity and microstrcuture of aluminium titanate was examined.X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were used to characterize the crystalline phases and microstructure of aluminium titanate.The results show that the purity of 90% is obtained for the aluminium titanate prepared using the aluminium slag,TiO_2 and V_2O_5 of 1.0wt% as additive,and the bulk density of the aluminium titanate is up to the highest,3.10g/cm~3,porosity is 9.8% and bending strength is 28.15MPa.
