Effect of La on microstructure and corrosion resistance of in-situ synthesized TiC-Al_2O_3/Al composites

TiC and Al2O3 particles reinforced aluminum matrix composite was synthesized from TiO2,C and Al powder by the in-situ contact reaction method.The effects of La on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of 10% TiC-Al2O3/Al composite were investigated by SEM,XRD and electrochemical test.The results show that the optimal La content in composite is 0.2%,the amount of TiC and Al2O3 particles increases and the distribution of the particles becomes uniform.The rodlike A13 Ti phase of the composites is transformed to massive Ti2Al20 La phase.The microstructure of the composites with addition of 0.2% La is relatively well.The corrosion current density of the composites is relatively lower,which is 4.053 × 10-5A·cm-2,reducing by 81% compared with that of the composites not added La,capacitive reactance arc radius is relatively large,the corrosion resistance is relatively well.
