Design and Implementation of a Virtual Laboratory System for Digital Communications

This paper proposes a new architecture for Web-based virtual laboratories with the CORBA technology. In the architecture, Java Applet acts as the client, CORBA acts as the communication bridge between different objects, JavaBean, Matlab and COM/DCOM are integrated as the computing background. By using the architecture, the efficiency of developing a virtual laboratory is improved markedly. Based on the platform, we construct four devices needed by the communication experiment, such as signal generator, signal pyramid, signal filter and oscillograph.Meanwhile the communication theory virtual lab can provide a lab environment for students to learn communication theory and to finish various communication theory experiments on the Internet.
