COMPUTER GENERATION OF 3-D REALISTIC GRAPHICS OF BOTANICAL TREES

Zheng Zhuojia, Wu Youshou and Li Shuliang(Tsinghua University)  
One of the most challenging tasks in computer graphics is to generate 3-D realistic graphics of botanical trees of nature. Applying a kind of parallel generating system, this paper presents a grammatical description of the structural features of this class of objects and a solution to the problem. The BSP(branch-skeletonpresentation) and the relations between production rules and structural patterns are studied. An effective attribute algorithm, which can generate realistic 3-D graphics of botanical trees, is described.
