TCP Yuelu:An End-to-End Congestion Control Mechanism for Wired/Wireless Hybrid Networks

Since high bit-error rate caused by wireless links in wireless/wired hybrid networks greatly degrades the end-to-end performance of TCP, based on some enhanced TCP variants, this paper proposes an efficient congestion control mechanism for wireless/wired hybrid networks. This mechanism consists of a phase-divided smooth slow start algorithm which weakens harm to network performance caused by bursty traffic; It also employs network measurement technology, obtaining the network parameters, such as RTT(Round Robin Time), network bandwidth and queue length of the bottleneck link, so the terminal nodes efficiently avoid improper behavior and be free of the blindness of network states. And the AIMD(Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease) rule of the window of TCP is modified according to network states and packet loss reasons. The network performance is greatly improved. This algorithm is implemented in the network simulator NS2 and many simulation experiments are designed with various scenarios, and simulation results show that TCP Yuelu decreases network oscillation and improves network performance, and good fairness and friendliness are achieved.
