A Numerical Modelling and Simulation for Truck Engine Cooling System

In this paper, a numerical cooling system model of the heavy truck engine is developed in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Engine, thermostat, radiator, pump and the air passage are included in the model. Nonlinear characteristics of thermal lag and time delay of thermostat are considered. Accordingly, control law for cooling fan speed modulation based on STATEFLWO is established. The basic agreement of simulation results and those obtained from the real test in different working condition shows that this model provides a good predication of the coolant temperature.
