The Control Characteristics of Tailless Flying-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

The static and dynamic stability of the High - Altitude Long - Endurance (HALE) tailless flying wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their control characteristics are described in this paper on the basis of the main characteristics. Based on the primary principle of flight dynamics, the natural stability of the UAV at the altitude of 16000m under cruise state is studied and the coupling of roll - pitch - yaw is simulated by using the Matlab simulink. Based on the analysis, the control laws of longitudinal and lateral direction are designed to analyze the climbing characteristics of longitudinal and azimuth control characteristics of lateral. The control laws are simulated and the obtained results prove that the Active Control Technology ( ACT) can improve the handling qualities of the UAV.
