3D Reconstruction for X-ray CT Sectional Series Images of Cracks within Rocks

Ostu method is used to perform the segmentation on the pore and fissure images in microscopic rock X-ray CT sectional images,by which the pore and fissure distributions in 2D X-ray CT sectional images are obtained.On this basis,Marching Cube algorithm is adopted to conduct a 3D reconstruction of successive CT sectional images,realizing the visualization of the crack distribution at the initiation stage of a rock loading test.The comparison of 2D segmentation images with those of 3D reconstruction shows that 3D reconstructed images has eliminated the restriction that the crack distribution can only be reflected from a planer surface in 2D segmented images and therefore,can reflect the crack spatial distribution in rock loading process in a more intuitive,true and accurate manner.
