A Review on the Dialect in the Transitional Belt in Zhenjiang

DA Yuan-yi ( School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang 212013, China )
Modern Zhenjiang dialect has evolved from the Wu dialect to the northern dialect due to the constant influx of immigrants that can be dated back to the 4th century. And thanks to geographical and economic factors, a transitional belt from the Wu dialect region to the Jianghuai dialect region has been formed in Zhenjiang. So Zhenjiang dialect takes on a series of linguistic characteristics typical of a transitional belt and shows a tendency of a constant increase in the ingredients of the Jianghuai dialect.
