Interaction Effects of Combining Ability With Years for Some Economic Traits in Sinica Type Hybrid Rice

Interaction effects of combining ability with years for 8 traits including yield were studied with 12 F1 hybrids of rice ( Oryza sativa L. ssp. sinica, or japonica ) derived from a 3 ×4 NC II crossing design and planted in random complete block experiments with 3 replications in Nanjing in 1985-1986. Significant interactions were found for GCA of sterile lines with year in plant height, seed setting rate and harvest index; for GCA of restorer lines with year in heading date, plant height,spikelets per panicle, seed setting rate and 1000-grain weight and for SCA with year in 1000-grain weight. The stability of GCA was high for most of the traits, and greater similarity was observed for GCA effects in different years. But it is not the case for SCA effects, the reverse was true. It was considered that one year test may be sufficient to obtain reliable results for the identification of GCA effects. However, multiple year or multiple site test may be needed for the evaluation of SCA effects.
