The concepts of Kernel plumpness and filling index in wheat (T. aestivum) are discussed in this paper. An experimential formula (VD=2.0944l X0. 5 wX0. 5 h)was developed to simulate the plump volume of dry kernels (VD) where l, w and A were the length, width and height of the kernels,respectively. The actual volume of the kernels (VG)was measured by the method of liquid displacement. The ratio of VG to VD was defined as kernel plumpness (D). The D values of 6 wheat varieties highly conformed to their observed plumpnesses.
