Study on the Root-development of Different Rice Varieties

Jiangsu cooperative group of the leaf-age-model of rice
Investigated the root-development of different rice varieties cultivated in different ecological areas as well as in nutrient solution. Found that the elongated internodes number of the main stem is correlated with the cease of root emergence in vestigated rice varieties: that of four, ceased root emergence in the heading stage; that of five, in the booting stage; that of six, in the flag-leaf stage; that of seven, in the 2nd-leaf-from-flag-leaf stage. Generally, the emergence of the upper-most 3 nodal roots in rice plant started at one-leaf-age before the jointing stage and finished about 3—4 leaf-age after the jointing stage. These results may serve as a base for promoting the development of root system and preventing leafsenecence as well as increasing the photosynthesis in rice community.
