Friction and Wear Resistance of Plasma Sprayed Nano-Al_2O_3/TiO_2 Coating

Plasma sprayed nanostructured Al_2O_3/TiO_2 coatings were fabricated with reconstituted spray-dried powders.The wear resistance of the coating were investigated using MM200 wear tester, and the worn surfaces of the coatings were observed through scanning electron microscope.The results show that the wear resistance of the nanostructured coating is better than that of the conventional coating, and the wear mechanism changes of these two kinds of coatings are different with the increase of the wearing load.The wear mechanism of the conventional coating is of microcracks and granule spalling,while that of the nanostructured coating is of adhesive wear and part spalling under the same conditions,due to the improvement of the toughness.
