Preparation and corrosion resistance of micro-arc oxidation ceramic coating on magnesium alloy

Ceramic coatings containing Ca and P were formed on AZ91D alloy substrate by micro-arc oxidation technique.The surface morphology,phase composition and element content were investigated by SEM,XRD and EDS,respectively.The corrosion resistance was evaluated by Tafel and EIS.The results show that the coating is mainly composed of Mg2SiO4 and MgO,and Ca and P elements are successfully doped into the ceramic coating.Increasing the concentration of Ca2+ in the electrolyte,the Ca content increases,meantime the number of micro-pores increases and the micro-cracks appear on the coating surface.The ceramic coating improves the magnesium alloy's corrosion resistance in 0.9% NaCl solution by 1~2 orders of magnitude according to the corrosion current density.The coating formed in electrolyte containing 0.3g/L Ca(H2PO2)2 exhibits the best corrosion resistance property.
