Development of low cost Q500E high strength low alloy thick plate steel

To develop a low cost Q500E high strength low alloy thick plate steel,the effect of deformation in nonrecrystallization zone and cooling rate after deformation on continuous cooling transformation(CCT) behavior and microstructure evolution was investigated.A series of thermo-mechanical rolling and accelerated cooling(TMCP) trials were conducted to reveal the effect of finish rolling temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel.The results show that the deformation in nonrecrystallization zone,cooling rate after deformation and finish rolling temperature significantly affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel.The TMCP specification for the low cost Q500E thick plate steel is that finish rolling in austenite nonrecrystallization zone at 800-850 ℃ with reduction rate of 75%,followed by accelerated cooling interrupted at 450-500 ℃ with cooling rate higher than 10 ℃/s.
