BALL MILLING INDUCED MICROSTRUCTURE EVOLUTION OF A1N

A1N particles are drastically refined by ball milling, from an original particle size of 40 μm to the range of 30-200 urn. High-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) observations demonstrate that the grain size refinement is governed by plastic deformation via creation, motion and rearrangement of dislocations. During the processing of grain size refinement, crystalline lattice distortion may occur, which results in the disappearance of intrinsic character for A1N.
