Polysaccharides from several tonics in traditional medicine (Lycium barbarum,Astragalus mongolicus,Epimedium koreanum and Ligustrum lucidum) increased and adjusted immune function. They mainly potentiated the function of T lymphocytes,including:(1)increasing the proliferation of T cells induced by ConA but not that induced by LPS,(2)increasing cellular immune function of thymus,(3)significantly potentiating the activity of T cells in old mice with decreased immune function and tumor-bearing mice. These polysaccharides may be major ingredients of tonics that restore health in debilitated conditions.
