IMMUNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RESEARCH AND USAGE OF ACTIVE INGREDIENT OF TONICS IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE

Polysaccharides from several tonics in traditional medicine (Lycium barbarum,Astragalus mongolicus,Epimedium koreanum and Ligustrum lucidum) increased and adjusted immune function.They mainly potentiated the function of T lymphocytes,including:(1)increasing the proliferation of T cells induced by ConA but not that induced by LPS,(2)increasing cellular immune function of thymus,(3)significantly potentiating the activity of T cells in old mice with decreased immune function and tumor-bearing mice.These polysaccharides may be major ingredients of tonics that restore health in debilitated conditions.
