Intratumoral chemotherapy of brain malignant gliomas

GUAN Liang, ZHANG Ji (1.Affiliated Hospital,Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Beijing 100039,China ;2.Department of Neurosurgery, General Hospital of PLA, Beijing 100853,China)
Glioma is the most common tumor in brain neoplasms, and also a difficult problem in neurosurgery. The prognosis for patients with gliomas remains dismal despite significant advances in neurosurgery, neuroradiation therapy and chemotherapy. Local intratumoral chemotherapy with the use of biodegradable polymer implants that allow sustained release of chemotherapeutical drugs provides a new promising approach for selective and low neurotoxic therapy.
