Factors that affect the preparation of a severe hemorrhagic shock model of Wistar rats

Objective To study the factors that affect the preparation of a severe hemorrhagic shock model of Wistar rats.Methods Seventy male rats were anesthesized and cannulated.Forty percent of the total blood volume was withdrawn via the arteria femoralis.Then the distribution of Wistar rats' pH,PaO2 and PaCO2 was analyzed and the 95% reference values were calculated.The rats were divided into normal group(n=61) and abnormal group(n=12) according to the reference values.The continuity adjusted Chi-square test was used to compare the intergroup survival rates.Then multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the survival-correlated parameter.Results The distribution of pH,PaO2 and PaCO2 was all skew.The 95% reference values were calculated as pH(7.30-7.59),PaO2(73-110)mmHg and PaCO2(32-50)mmHg.There was significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).The survival rate of the normal group(80.33%) was higher than that of the abnormal group(33.33%).pH and PaCO2 were correlated with the survival rate.Conclusion The rate of success may be higher if the pH within 7.30-7.59,PaO2 within 73-110 mmHg and PaCO2 within 32-50 mmHg when the Wistar rats are used as a severe hemorrhagic shock model.pH and PaCO2 are of greater significance for survival.
