Finite element simulation of temperature field for TIG butt welding of thin plate

Temperature field distribution of weldment ,which reflects complex welding heat process, is a basic on studying welding deformation, residual stress and so on. Development of numerical simulation technology provides power technicalsupport for welding process. A double elliptic distribution model of moving heatsource was used to thin plate with low carbon steel in TIG welding, and a three-dimensional non-linear FEM analysis model was established .It shows betterfitness between the numerical solution and experiment results. Based on FEM model, the influence of the plate gap and welding torch eccentric value to welding temperature field distribution was analyzed.
