The digital analysis for friction in metal cutting

There are many factors which affect the friction between tools and chips. The friction status is very difficult to confirm. In order to study the friction how affects the cutting process, this paper used the FEM analysis software to simulate the orthogonal cutting process with different friction coefficient. It can be draw conclusions that the residual stresses of machined surface are increasing with the raising of friction coefficient, the adding of deformation coefficient, the increasing of cutting temperature. The reduction of friction of cutting can do benefit for improving the machining quality and prolonging the working life of tools.
