Structural Analysis and Optimization of Magnesium Alloy Automotive Steering Column Bracket

Lightweight is one of the main trends in vehicle development.Magnesium alloy has low density,high strength and good damping property,and the use of magnesium alloy manufacturing automotive components has important practical significance for reducing part weight and improving vehicle performance.In order to study the feasibility of using magnesium instead of aluminum to manufacture automotive steering column bracket,the stress value and stress distribution of the bracket have been studied using finite element analysis method.The results show that stress distribution of bracket is less affected by material,adding stiffeners inside the bracket can significantly reduce the stress at critical locations of the bracket,which not only makes the bracket become lighter but also has higher safety and reliability.
