Multiple Grinding Wheel's Topography Parametric Evaluation

A laser displacement sensor was used to detect the three-dimensional topography of alumina grinding wheel and a local surface topography model was established with the data. Multiple grinding wheels were evaluated through different wheel topography characterizationparameters. The grains density,grains protrusion height,effective protrusion height before and after grinding of different types of grinding wheel were researched and protrusion heightdistribution curvesof alumina grinding wheel were fitted. It is shown that grains number per area,grains height and grains gap are uneven.Thegrinding wheels that have biggerstructure number will have smaller grains density.When the grinding wheel's hardness increases,the grinding wheel's wear rate will decrease.The results also show that the protrusion height distribution of alumina grinding wheels before and after grinding is more accord with normal distribution.Effective protrusion height is inversely proportional to the particle number and it is proportional to the wheel's hardness.
