A Normal Mode Model for Ocean Seismo-acoustics in Shallow Water

A normal mode method for the sound propagation in shallow water resting on a stratified bottom is presented.The mathematical basis for the normal mode model is the depth separation of the wave equation for range independent ocean waveguides.And the approach uses complex contour integration to reduce the integration to that of a sum of residuals corresponding to the poles introduced by the eigenvalue equation.The effect of the sea sediment parameters and central frequency of the source on the low frequency acoustic wave propagation in shallow water are investigated.Two applications are given to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method.
