Synthesis of Jasminaldehyde under Solvent-free Condition Coupled with Microwave Irradiation and PTC

The syntheses of jasminaldehyde, α hexyl cinnamic aldehyde and chalcone were performed by aldol condensation of benzaldehyde with heptanal,octanal and acetophenone respectively under solvent free condition coupled with microwave irradiation and phase transfer catalysis.The optimum reaction conditions were:potassium hydroxide 0 17 g,aluminum oxide 4 00 g,triethybenzylammonium chloride (TEBAC) 1 25 mmol,heptanal 5 00 mmol,benzaldehyde 12 50 mmol,microwave power 560 W and microwave irradiation time 60 s.The yield of jasminaldehyde was up to 90 4%.Under the same conditions, α hexylcinnamic aldehyde and chalcone were synthesized in 82 8% and 78 8% yields respectively.
