Antioxidant Activity of Atractylodes lancea and Atractylodes lancea Preparata

The total antioxidant activity of essential oils and extracts from Atractylodes lancea and Atractylodes lancea preparata was evaluated by three methods,namely,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)radical scavenging,[2,2-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid]diammonium salt(ABTS)radical scavenging,and ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP)assay.The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of A.lancea had a higher activity(DPPH:IC50=6.03 μg/mL;ABTS:IC50=3.59 μg/mL:FRAP:FRAP=3 186.67 μmol TE/g),and its antioxidant activity was significantly decreased after being stirred by wheat bran.This paper clearly shows that A.lancea is a good natural resource of antioxidants.
