Study on Design Reuse

Design, in general, may be classified as varia nt design, adaptive design and original design. It is estimated that 80% of all designs are adaptive or variant, and this means that a majority of the design pr ocess is based on reuse of knowledge from previous designs. Computer-based desi gn reuse may shorten design cycle, improve design quality, and thus realize quic k response to the market. Design reuse seems to become a hot research topic in c omputer aided design domain. On the basis of research into the existing design r euse systems, some important issues in design reuse such as reuse concept, reuse process model, reuse levels, key reuse techniques and modeling for design histo ry supporting reuse are identified and generalized in this paper. Furthermore, a ll kinds of issues are studied deeply and systematically, the related definition s of concepts are proposed and the related models established.
