Static and Dynamic Characteristics of an Air Bearing Guide Driven by a Linear Motor

Linear motors and aerostatic bearings have often been used in the linear guide-way systems of ultraprecision machine tools and precision measuring equipments. However, many carriages are not driven in mass center, so there will be an add-on moment, which may cause Abbe′s errors on the working surface. Therefore, in this paper, the dynamic stiffness and damping coefficient of aerostatic bearing for tilt motion of a shaft are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Based on the calculation data, the accuracy of the aerostatic bearing guide driven by a linear motor was studied.
